No not a VM the entire host is not booting up.  It is stuck on a blinking screen.

Can you help us by giving a little more detail.?

Are you stuck in BIOS or no display at all in power up or you are seeing the blink screen when esxi boots and the first phase of booting is completed [black and yellow screen with progress bar]

Re: Weird issues on VM HardDisk information Script

the issue does not occur when i substitute the command parameter, however, the execution time went thru the roof, as i expected.

Seconds           : 24

Milliseconds      : 93

(Measure-Command Statistic)

I believe thats because of the string parameter, that forces get-harddisk cmdlet to create a VirtualMachine object (i believe it calls Get-VM, which is very, VERY slow. Thats why i used the Get-View with -ViewType in the first place).

Luc, is there anyway i can make this quickier without the Get-VIObjectByVIView? I tested many options while creating this script and this proved to be the most efficient one, with runtimes around 1 to 2 seconds in the same environment (as i said, the script randomly fails with the disconnection issue, sometimes i can make it work and its pretty fast )

We don't have a specific recommendation in that regards. An N1KV installation gets tied to a VMware Datacenter. You can have any number of clusters below that Datacenter.

Its really going to depend on the size of your environment. If the number of hosts, clusters, and VMs is relatively small then maybe one N1KV installation is enough. If its a large environment it might make more sense to use multiple N1KV installations.

Also keep in mind if you will be duplicating a lot of the port-profile configs between N1KV instances it might make more sense to have less configs so you are not having to duplicate.

With the latest code we support 128 ESXi hosts, 300 VMs per host, and 4000 VMs total per N1Kv installation.

Let me know if you need more info.

It would appear that Perfect Forward Security PFS is enabled by default on the vCHS vShield Edge Gateway. I was able to establish VPN connectivity with my Cisco ASA that has PFS enabled.

yeah - I appreciate it's slightly different.

If it doesn't work - please make note to check if the DeviceManager shows the USB components installed (pls confirm the driver versions). and if you could grab the view agent debug logs.

If you send them to me I can take a peek to try and figure out where it is broken,

Re: vCenter Heartbeat and vCenter Failed

vCenter Heartbeat is a cluster solution which protects the vCenter services, So you will have two servers Primary and Secondary, One of the server would be active and other being passive,

Incase if the active servers goes down, vCenter HB will failover the vCenter services to the passive node. No other steps to be performed.

Bridge mode only not working

$

I'm running VMware Fusion 6.01 on Mountain Lion (10.8.3). I started off over a year ago with Fusion 4.x on Lion.

I tried to install a Linux VM (Xubuntu) from a LiveCD of a product we're using, with the network adapter setup in bridged mode. I could never get that working, so under the assumption that it was an issue with the LiveCD, I moved on to Ubuntu 12.04.

I'm still not able to get bridged mode to work completely. The VM can work just fine in NAT mode, with functionality as expected.

In bridged mode, the guest (10.1.2.49) can access the host (10.1.2.62), and the host can access the guest, but no one else on the network can see the guest, and the guest can't communicate with anyone else on the network.

The host sees the following:

lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384

On the guest, I tried turning off the first adapter created during the creation of the vm (Network Adapter), disabled it within the guest, rebooted the guest, and then added a new adapter (Network Adapter 2), to no avail. The guest adapter is manually configured (no DHCP). The following is what the interfaces look like on the guest side:

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:0c:29:9a:75:09

          UP BROADCAST MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1

          RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)

eth1      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:0c:29:9a:75:13

          inet addr:10.1.2.49  Bcast:10.1.2.255  Mask:255.255.255.0

          inet6 addr: fe80::20c:29ff:fe9a:7513/64 Scope:Link

UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1

          RX packets:10667 errors:0 dropped:8 overruns:0 frame:0

          TX packets:2804 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000

          RX bytes:1042535 (1.0 MB)  TX bytes:254172 (254.1 KB)

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback

          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0

          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host

          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:65536  Metric:1

          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0

          RX bytes:70352 (70.3 KB)  TX bytes:70352 (70.3 KB)

I've disabled any unused network adapters on the host (wifi, bluetooth pan); still no connectivity outside of the guest-to-host.

I've checked my Console logs and don't see any obvious errors related to VMware in there, though being new to this config, I could easily be missing something.

Where do I go from here? This seems like such a simple thing, but I've not been able to find any supporting docu that details the file structure in place for configuring Fusion, nor much in the way of troubleshooting this outside of several posts here in the forums.

Thanks for any insight you might be able to shed, in advance!

Hi,

There are no differences in terms of scalability and performance, both are fully supported for production, for the same maximums (refer to the vcenter maximun configurations guide).

Re: Lab Manager Replacement

I have seen machines getting created within a machine using fast provisioning in vcloud director. If it's the time of provisioning that you are worried about then vcloud director is useful. Linked clones will be useful only if u want to optimize Ur storage usage and have centralized patching by using master images and stuff which I think Is also possible using fast provisioning..

You will have to check for vCOPS standalone which will have 1.0. And its not compatible

Re: Comparison of two CSV's in order to remove unused VDIs

$

Hmm, for some reason I'm getting a lot of VMs showing up on this list with users that are not old.  Perhaps I could try a different approach.  Instead is there  away to take the two .csv files and merge them into a single .csv file after they're matched?  For example:

File#1

VDIPool,User,Status,LastLogon

CorpW764QA-DT,User1,Enabled,7/20/2013 8:46

CorpW764QA-DT,User2,Disabled,9/2/2013 16:39

CorpW764QA-DT,User3,Enabled,9/20/2013 19:06

File#2

Desktop,Pool,DNS Name,User,Host,Agent Version,Datastore,Mode,Status

Desktop1,CorpW7QA-DT,desktop1.mydomain.local,mydomain.local\User1,esxqa41yyz.mydomain.local,4.5.0,[Store1],Remote,Available

Desktop2,CorpW7QA-DT,desktop2.mydomain.local,mydomain.local\User2,esxqa43yyz.mydomain.local,4.5.0,[Store1],Remote,Available

Desktop3,CorpW7QA-DT,desktop3.mydomain.local,mydomain.local\User3,esxqa72yyz.mydomain.local,Unknown,[Store1],Remote,Available

Becomes File#3

User,Status,LastLogon,Desktop,Pool,DNS Name

User1,Enabled,7/20/2013 8:46,Desktop1,CorpW7QA-DT,desktop1.mydomain.local,mydomain.local

User2,Enabled,7/20/2013 8:46,Desktop2,CorpW7QA-DT,desktop2.mydomain.local,mydomain.local

User3,Enabled,7/20/2013 8:46,Desktop1,CorpW7QA-DT,desktop3.mydomain.local,mydomain.local

Any thoughts?
